Just overwrite the files with the new ones. Be sure to back up your 2/0/4 files first tho, and do not overwrite the mainfile.php.

The data are stored in the database, not in the php files.

Don't worry m8,
The php files just contain code. Your data is stored in a MySQL database, and those files aren't here
But as Herko said, don't overwrite mainfile.php, this one contains all the configuration data you entered during your former site setup.

The way i upgrade is as follow, give the previous version files a "X" prefix, and than upload the new version file.

For example, post.php becomes Xpost.php, and than upload your new post.php, simple ?

Just the way i do it.

...or you can use an _ instead of an X. Then your old files will be listed first in your directory. (If sorted ascendingly.)

Just my 2 cents....
