Which security module to use

As a newbie, I am unclear as to what combination of modules is needed to assure maximum security.
Protector comes with the core but do I get any more protection with Xortify? I understand that
Xoops Protector provides some extra security because of the Trust_Path but is it a replacement
for Protector or an add-on?

Would appreciate input.

Protector is a must, and you should install it ASAP, if you haven't yet.

Xortify had mix reviews in the past because of bugs. I didn't test the last version and therefore I don't know if it is finally bug-free, so give it a try and see if it works for you.

But regardless of Xortify, keep Protector installed!

Thanks, Mamba for reply.

One other question: what is the distinction between Protector and XoopsProtector?
Is one a later version of the other or are they separate modules with different degrees of protection?

There are no different versions, there is only one module.

Where do you see them as different?

Mamba, a search for Protector module comes up with the following results:

Protector (irmtran) and XoopsProtector (GIJoe).

The Protector module is part of XOOPS Installation file, so install just the one that comes with XOOPS.

There is no need to look for it somewhere else.
