That's all - English symbols, not O with double dots above or such things.

Yes, but since the file is UTF-8, then it shouldn't matter. For example, in some of the modules, Hervet posted his name:

* @copyright       Hervé Thouzard (http://www.herve-thouzard.com)

Or somebody from Brazil:

### Mastop InfoDigital - Paixão por Internet

We don't want to force people to change the writing of their names or their companies, correct?

There is no tight regulations for images.
But IMO the newbb way is the best one.
Quote:

The priority for reading images are as below:
* IF EXISTS XOOPS_ROOT/themes/YOUR_THEME/modules/newbb/images/, TAKE IT;
* ELSEIF EXISTS XOOPS_ROOT/themes/default/modules/newbb/images/, TAKE IT;
* ELSE TAKE XOOPS_ROOT/modules/newbb/templates/images/
The above means, if you want to customize images for all of your themes you should not touch the modules/newbb/templates/images/ folder.
Just upload the image set in XOOPS_ROOT/themes/default/modules/newbb/images and all of your themes will read it from default theme.
Then if you want to customize it for another specific theme you can upload the new image set in XOOPS_ROOT/themes/YOUR_THEME/modules/newbb/images
And you can follow the above for the other themes.

then inside the images folder we have language folders.
modules/newbb/images/language/english
modules/newbb/images/language/arabic
...
it can be followed by other modules too.

We definitely need a standard for all modules.

If you can, please take a lead together with DCrusador on "internationalization/localization" for translations, code (like XoopsLocal) and image placement, so we can have clear guidelines that could be then followed by developers and testers.

If they're in Unicode, ok... but Braizilian comments in English language files, and/or Brazilian words in English strings.. that's unacceptable.

Yay, someone finally awakes :)

Just as reminder - translators, are not image designers, avoid of using any images such as
modules/newbb/images/language/english
modules
/newbb/images/language/arabic

Use CSS styling for buttons, look how is done SMF 2.0.2, no images.

Im familiar with this.
I sent a feature request to the core tracker to have an auto create imge class in xoops.
If core team got it and implement it correctly in the future an english webmaster or local parties dont need to create any image for the local language. they just focus on languages definitions and images will created automatically based on those definitions from the source images when you install the module.
eg in newbb for customization in english: one simple english webmaster just change "reply" definition to "feed back" then he has an image with "feed back" word on it.
one french
eg in newbb for localization in french: the webmaster just translate "UP" to "Haut" (is this correct?) then after installation he has the "Haut" button.

furthermore, in newbb you have this option to disable buttons and have text links.
It means you can have those "CSS styling buttons" with the help of some user side templates (html/smarty/css)

I still work on newbb but if we can find a professional designer who can revamp the newbb templates, you can see what can be done in XOOPS newbb looking is more than SMF or any other forum.

right now im working on it. this is very important and personally i like regulations more than the current anarchy
I want to sum up all recent posts and create a new wiki page here.
i hope after that we can promote it to the module and also core developers

I'm expecting this wiki from ages, so finally the stupid and useless folders /help to be removed from XOOPS distribution.

"From here u can install modules" is everything else but NOT help, should looks like:
"From here u can install modules, previously uploaded via FTP to your /modules folder, if u know what the heck is FTP" - (Most users this days uses Softaculous (or whatever it name is), CPanel auto-installer scripts, and no one cares to learn what is FTP and what for is.

....and outdated mail templates to be moved in SQL with function in the system module.

Asap I will:
- remove copyleft information from the headers (is there an example what to use)
- check and remove any invalid spaces

for the dutch language files available on Sourceforge.
