Xortify 3.03 - Fortify XOOPS - Improved

Resized Image
Xortify - Fortify your XOOPS.
Community Release by Chronolabs Co-op

A cloud computing process is one which staggers multiple networks sometime and mainly unknown to the webmaster into a network or cloud of data. In this example it is IP and Netaddy names to control access lists.

This will prevent predators from exposing your network to lag and other attacks from link farming, often this means many xoops are attacked in occasions which is all the time caught by protector, this way if an attack is in process across a large spectrum of links, your site will down itself to your sourced attack even if it is discovered on a completely unaffiliated site that is link farmed to yours or on a XOOPS User list.

Xortify is a cloud solution to protectors Bad IPs, if someone attempts to hack your site and becomes a bad IP it will then send the IP to the Ban Cloud on Xortify.com and its paired cloud Xortify.chronolabs.coop. It will also poll the server to make sure it has the latest ban list so your website will be aware of malusers before they attack through farming IP from services like Google or bing.

Watch this video to understand more about Xortify!

Xortify is finally bug free, there was a lasting reminder of how it can be quiet frustrating developing software, especially cloud solutions with so many variables to hone to make sure the system is working, you should enjoy this version and any future releases for XOOPS 2.7, but as it stands I can't find anymore situations, warnings, notices or WSOD with this copy.

Xortify is a network security drone that uses Web 2.0 techniques to link between your XOOPS installs and other via a Server Cloud. This will prevent security intrusions to your xoops with accurate deceptive notation of the intruder and prevent any farmed attacks. It is an accessory and required Protector to be installed an running to be part of the hookup. Otherwise it will run without protector just make sure you deselect protector as a provider.

It will display a template if you are banned and is an accessory to protector or any other firewall technology. The site itself is driven from http://xortify.chronolabs.coop and mirrored at http://www.xortify.com .. Cloud computing is web 2.0/3.0 stuff it used a SOAP or JSON, XML or Serialisation to exchange on the API backend to work, this will eventually be included in xoops as a support class.

Trial For Inclusion
Xortify will be hopefully moved into the XOOPS platform after a year or so of fine tunning and testing, it is currently discussed to move the cloud (http://www.xortify.com) onto ownership of the domain and this node of the cloud by the XOOPS Foundations. (Chronolabs Will Donate It In the name of AntiSpam). This is the current trial for inclusion and bundling of Xortify with protector in XOOPS 2.6 - This Archive will ONLY work on XOOPS 2.6.

Requirements
  • XOOPS 2.6

I today finally managed to hook the Xortify sever to nlxoops.nl, protocol issues with the hoster but they are solved now...

Before the signup succeeded the module showed some strange behaviour, it was uninstalled without me touching anything. After reinstall I could walk around through all the options but the module vanished from the dashboard every time... Now that the signup succeeded it looks like the module has stopped uninstalling itself. I don't have any clue what triggered the uninstall.

Xortify is installed on XOOPS 2.5.4

Hey Flipse,

I would say for some reason, your xortify is unable to communicate with xortify.com; one trick you can do to stop this is to change the CRON from preloader to some setting that is not set up.

It concerns me that this is happening tho as you will need to have the cURL extension or SOAP or at least be able to wGET from the server that is php ini setting of furl_open = true.

There is a preloader in system/preloaders/xortify.php that detects if the server is communicatable with WGET or CURL, if you are using SOAP only then you will have to turn it off. I noticed some of the spider links coming through so I find it odd that you are having problems with module.

Let me know how you go

Simon

Don't misunderstand me. All seems to be working fine now but I would report the issues I had before. A module uninstalling itself constantly because of a protocol issue seems odd to me!

Download: Xortify 3.03 - Patched ZIP - Download again

Yeah it is just so if xortify.com or xortify.xoops.org (when made) goes down then it will temporarily deactivate so it doesn't lag on your system trying to resolve the DNS for one of the clouds..

Please download again as I have patched it on the SVN and the ZIP as there was a minor issue causing a WSOD on odd occassions; due to an objectivity issue.

Thanks

Simon

I have a strange protector issue now. Replying to a cbb post ended with me being banned (banned.php is showing...). Strange is I cannot get to the site using firefox, but can get in using Safari on one and the same machine (iMac). The protector log is telling me I am a monitored user as the result of a DOS attack...

Re: Xortify 3.03 - Fortify XOOPS - Improved

Yeah flipse, I think for some reason Firefox causes a Server 500 error, i would like some help if you can go over your server logs next time it happens and see if anything is mentioned, cause i have been going over mine and there is nothing mentioned to do with Xortify or the Server 500 error that intermiterantly occurs.

I really would like it solved cause i want some closure on this module, seeming it has already been ported to 2.6 as best i can tell.. It does however prevent a huge amount of spam, I haven't been spammed since i got Xortify up and running.

Thanks again for helping me out by fine tuning the settings Simon !

Just another minor question. banned.php exposes xoops, xortify and php versions used on the site. Couldn't this compromise security? I think of hackers looking for known security issues.

Having a PHP version will not assist hacker, they normally need things like extensions and the information you find in PHP INFO it is like telling a hacker your Computer Runs on Windows or Ubutu, the information is little to go on..
