I would go with 4.1, and provide any feedback for that version, since Alfred volunteered to lead the development.

The flow of the past development was:

4.03 - Alfred
4.05 - Defkon1 (a lot of changes to 4.03)
4.06 - Mamba (conversion of 4.05 to XOOPS 2.5.0 GUI)
4.10 - Alfred (merging of his 4.03 with 4.06)

I didn't have time to see if Alfred incorporated all the changes from 4.06 that was mainly modified by Defkon, so if you have time to test both version and see if there are any missing features, that would be great.

Yes you can but some 4.05/4.06 functions aren't available in 4.10: at least, share post to social networks (ex: SHARE_FACEBOOK).

4.06 + 4.10 don't have subject's [prefix] feature :( that exists in v3.08, in Xoops.org's forum.

Pb with SEO (v4.06 + v4.10):
- always enabled...
into data / caches / xoops_cache / xoops_newbb_config.php
'do_rewrite' stays "1"
even if not in preferences.

Pb v4.10 (at least) with/without SEO really enabled:
I create several subjects, posts, replies... to test.
1st subjects links from newbb_block_topic are ok but others send me to incorrect subject.
Links displayed in this block with each time Topic_id +1 even if it's not really good because when there're replies, the Topic_Id of a new subject isn't previous one +1.
(no problemo with newbb_block_topic from v3.08, all subjects well-linked)

Spammers sometimes flood the forums with messages all over the place. So I would like to have the option to remove all posts a user has made. I know it's a very dangerous option... But it can save you a lot of time!

Would it also be possible to have an option remove the spammer (user) in the same pass and pass the ip address and username over to Xortify for a ban ?

I want to upgrade, and I'm guessing the most recent on (4.10) would be the best, but I seem only able to upgrade once at a time (eg. moving from 4.06 to 4.07)?

I have translated 4.06 halfway, but now it seems 4.10 is the new goal in cbb and/ or newbb. Can he just finish the 4.06 language files I started with or are the 4.10 (allready 4.20 as I saw on myxoops.org) different from the 4.06 ones?

Another issue I'd like to get more clear is newbb versus cbb. As far as I know it started once with newbb and cbb took over as the new forum module, but using the old newbb database entry's.

Sometime ago someone started updating what was called cbb to version 4.05, after that Alfred was busy updating newbb to 4.1 and now 4.2.

I know about all those different names for basically the same module but it's getting difficult for newbies or website owners turning back at our support sites, because they want an update for their old forum modules...

Same for upgrade questions, can older cbb or newbb modules be upgraded to newbb 4.2 or later? I know it's difficult after I moved the old xoops.nl forum to the nlxoops.nl forum (cbb 4.06), and still not everything is working well. I had to add some database entries manually to get it working... No problem for me but I know some less adventures webmasters don't know how to handle such an upgrade. Many of them have websites build around the forum module, in many cases filled with thousands of posts they want to keep.

So what I want to say... Upgrading is great but don't forget to help webmasters with older newbb or cbb modules. By providing upgrade scripts and clearness in readme files and module descriptions.
