I have it installed and it is working great... however I have one bug... we have set up a private forum for a particular group... they do not want the webmaster to have access to it... the permissions work fine for all the other groups... In the permission screen of the module I have deselected webmaster for access to that category... yet when I am logged on as webmaster I have full access to the category and the forums within that category.... Any Ideas...

BTW... the site is running on 2.5.1a

Thats just a bad idea all around.. Don't let anyone talk you into that arrangement.

You are still ultimately liable for the content on your system whether or not you had access.

Actually the reasons are...

I am a paid contractor... there is another person who is part of the developement team who is part of the Board Of Directors and has full access and he will be the moderator of that category and the forums within...

As I am not a Director of the organization I fully understand their wanting me not to have access...

Ahh..

Create a new group to migrate your account to with full admin except the forums.

group settings seem like the way to go here..

Good suggestion... Except for the fact that This particular theme has a C-Panel that is only visible when you are logged on in the webmaster group...

This C-Panel allows a multitude of changes to be made to the theme... so this one theme can literally have many thousands of different looks!

I need to have access to this C-Panel for quick changes on the fly...


I would rather find the fix for the permissions within the XForum module itself...

This problem only has a work around... by doing as suggested and removing myself from the webmaster group and adding a new group as suggested...

This answer/confirmation came from WishCraft Himself...

If your client is hosting and operating the site, I can't see there being a problem with this. However, if your name is connected to the site hosting agreement in any way, then I agree with the original comment made by Dante7237.

I believe the rules vary a little depending if the site is hosted in the UK or the USA, but legally you may be responsible for the comments posted in that forum if the forum was used for any illegal activity.

For example, if your client used it to encourage a patent violation (it doesn't have to be porn) and you were unable to moderate the forum when someone complained, then as overall site webmaster I'm pretty sure you could be held liable for the consequences.

You would be better off signing a non-disclosure agreement than losing control of the forum IMHO.
