I think that's confusing having eg. 10 content modules.

It is XOOPS wealthy to have such large number of modules. My own experience :
• sometimes I need a module to make simple pages : I use Content. I could also use WF-Channel for this purpose, but for moment, it is under development
• other times I need a module more elaborate : I can use News if informations are frequently updated or Publisher to make a solid documentation category
• ... and if I want to interface my module with forums, I use Pico
• etc.

So, XOOPS always respond to my needs thanks thanks to the variety of modules. I'm not skilled with PHP, I can't adapt a module to my needs. And more there are developers, more there are open code to make all modules impove.

Another point is to help newbies to discover XOOPS under the best conditions. That's why - as users experienced - we can help them by several packs

... and about News module, perhaps Novasmart could make a script to import datas from News to AMS ?

Spotlight block had been integrated natively inside AMS for years (no hacking needed). Maybe I misunderstood your statement, but if you talking about just Spotlight block, i think AMS is the best and most flexible with multiple template and support custom template easily.

Burning:
Yes, there is real plan to do so. I'm waiting AMS 3.0 to be release 1st, then I'll make script to import data from News, SmartSection etc. Since there is possibility News will be abandon by original developer, this script become more urgent for XOOPS community.

Would love to use it if I can get this working...

I moved my "issue" with this module to another thread as it is not on topic for this thread.

The thread I moved my issue to is...

Look forward to a solution.
Thanks!

So, I begin : my point of view (necessarily subjective, as everyone I do not know all XOOPS modules)

Good list of modules.

Too bad that this thread kind of died with no action

As we're getting closer to 2.4.5 release, I thought that it would be good to create at least one basic Module Pack for the release of 2.4.5. So I started on putting the modules together for Personal Pack, based on your and others feedback etc.

I've created "Personal Pack 2.4 " Alpha, containing:
-----
AdsLight 1.061
CBB 3.08
Marquee 2.47
MyLinks 1.1
Popnupblog 3.25
TDMDownloads 1.5
TDMPicture 1.05
xForms 1.0
xNews
XoopsFQA 1.21
XoopsPartners (there are issues there)
XoopsPoll 1.31
xSitemap 1.02

We might also include those modules in the future in the Beta/Final (after more testing and feedback):

Publisher (currently only Alpha available)
ExtCal 1.08
Tag
RW-Banner
MyTabs
Backpack
iMenu/MultiMenu
Content
Video-Tube
XoopsCare
IndexScan

Burning, you've mentioned Ghost - what does it do and why should it be included?

All: could you please test the modules on XOOPS 2.4.5 RC2 for bugs etc

After trying to test those modules, what it's striking is the lack of consistency of module Admin GUI.

All the icons are different, and the "look & feel" is also different between many of the modules. As a result, the user is wasting too much time on learning them individually, and thus being less productive.

So we'll need to:

1) come up with the standard icon set for the modules, similar to those in this thread:

- Resized Image edit
- Resized Image delete
- Resized Image add
- Resized Image next
- Resized Image previous
- Resized Image email
- Resized Image pdf

XOOPS 2.5.0 will have such a set of standard icons, but it would be good to have it defined/agreed on it already now, and update the modules for the Personal Pack, so they are consistent. Please follow the discussion on Icons in the above thread.

2) come up with a "XOOPS Module Admin GUI Guidelines" defining a standard "look and feel" for the modules GUI. Most of them are looking way too different from each other, and to achieve the same result (e.g. create a Category), there are different ways to get there.

So I would like to start a new thread on "XOOPS Module Admin GUI Guidelines"

What are the "state of the Art" module Admin GUI?

How could we make some "module Admin GUI components" that could be used to easily used in creating modules, or updating existing modules?

Please follow up on this topic in that new thread.

@Mamba : Ghost 1.02 module is a simple blank page, very useful to insert content (user has to edit index.php) or to display blocks. Easy to clone.

I believe Happy linux (Blank Paper 0.21) and Trabis (dummy 0.10) have developed same module. It has been used it for two modules :
global notifications 1.00
xoops styles 1.02

So it's more for developers than for "end-users"? How would the end-user benefit from having it in the Module Pack?

Just some examples :
http://www.babylonbyxoops.net/modules/xoops-themes-design/index.php
http://www.babylonbyxoops.net/modules/xoops-modules-logo/index.php
http://www.babylonbyxoops.net/modules/xoops-modules-dev/index.php

3 ghosts modules : it allows to display block(s).

User can also :
• insert what he wants in content zone (html or php), he has to put his code into ghost/index.php
• display an entry in Main menu block (works as all xoops module, enter 1 or 0)

... sooner or later, the user still needs this kind of page (legal, credit, general conditions of sale, ...)

hi,

with ghost mod --> xoops-styles module, global_notification module by Marvelous

on packages of modules, we must take into consideration that all communities do not use the same modules, we should focus on blue mod
