I am trying to edit the News Item Template, nothing drastic simply making one of the cells a different color, everytime I do, the news page resorts to a code view.

Using ver 2.0.18.2 with Clouds as a theme. I have refreshed the the templates for updats and emptied C_templates too. It has me beat as it is such a simple to do

Where and how did you change your template?
Did you update the News module?

First of all I cloned the template then download it, and changed just one of the table cells bg color, saved as is and upload. Refreshed template for changes, refreshed News in the modules and empited C_templates.

The template was News_items.html

Try by updating the file in the /modules/news/template/ directory and enabling the setting for 'check the templates ...' in the system general preferences or updating the News module.

Yea tried those and still nothing works, I have just downl;oaded and installed a fresh copy of the whole of the news module. The page now is out of alignment to what it was before.

Think I'll give up for now thanks for sticking with me

For anyone that works with templates and block permissions extensively, you will want GIJOE's altsys module. Don't leave home without it.

Templates are cached unless you have that system preference set to rebuild them. Also, you have to choose which set of templates to use. Clearing the cache directories will rebuild them of course, and in <2.3.x versions of XOOPS, you will have to clear the templates_c directory for templates to rebuild.

BTW, which version of XOOPS and which version of News? I use news on most sites....

If you cloned the templates, then chose them as default, then edited the file version, that will not change those used by XOOPS even if the module is updated since the cloned ones are the default templates and updating those will only update the default set, not the chosen cloned templates.

Does that help?

Thanks a lot people, for the advice for what seems quite trivial, I will play around around with the cloned templates and simply keep going until I get what I would like to achieve. I do believe that also involoves the themes as well.

Thanks once again appreciated
