Facebook is just a tool. Use it, if it gives you a benefit, don't use it if you don't have to. Simple as that

Would be nice if Obama and the guys were friends on Facebook... Then they could have a chat, comment on each other pictures and status messages... world peace for sure...

This social networks just show me how shallow people are. At the very end my problem is with humanity and not with facebook itself.

But the main point I would like to focus is :
I don't want my site built with facebook data. I don't want to promote facebook. I want to promote my site and for do so, I'll use facebook or any other network site were I can bring people attention. So, focus on your site, on your content. Do not make your site an api site. Do not make your site a RSS colector where no original content is offered, work the other way around, provide a rss feed with your content so users can use it on facebook.

Use facebook don't be used by it.

I'll chip my two cents worth in too...

I have to agree with trabis fully here.
I did not spend the last three years of
my life building a website just to promote
a social networking site that has nothing
to do with anything even remotely
related to things I am interested in.

I've tried a few of them in the past and
quite frankly they just don't work for me.

Some folks might want to casually insult
them as being pieces of crap but as webmasters
all of us know how much work it is to build
and maintain any website.
(Even if most social network's "content"
is from users telling the world at large
they are eating a Twinkie ATM. lol)

I assume you're talking about a fan box? The way i see it, you get a way to promote your facebook page (not profile) which could lead to other facebook users visiting your site via the link on the facebook page ... Also you get to promote your site on a PR 9 site... :)

but of course... if facebook, twitter etc are not important in your country there's no point... :)

For me, this matters (facebook statistics):

Poor me,

I´m a facebook maniac. But for me, I have friends around the world, and it´s the easiest and cheapest way to get in contact with them.

Of course it will be brilliant to have an option i.e. in the news module to post it in Facebook at the same time.

But I think it´s not free from facebooks site t9o give this opitunity.

Social comunitys are cery important today, so why not let XOOPS the first CMS with a full access to thosse sites??

Maybe someone can develop a good social network module and ad a function to colaborate with other social networks like facebook and hyves. And not only to GET info but also to POST info like pictures, video's, music (not on facebook but hyves has this option) etc...

This could also save a lot of server space .
