How can block cache be activated ?

I couldn't find any help on the following subject:

I put some cache time on some blocks in the block admin. It doesn't work:
- no cache files appear in the xoops_data/caches/smarty_cache folder
- the blocks execute their scripts within the cache time.

How can I get activated the block cache ?

I am on XOOPS 2.3.3, Apache / php 5.

Make sure you have chmod 755 the folders
- xoopsdata
- xoopsdata/caches
- xoopsdata/caches/smarty_cache
- xoopsdata/caches/smarty_compile
- xoopsdata/caches/xoops_cache

I guess also make sure the setting for Preferences-->General Settings->"Update module template.html files from themes/your theme/templates directory?" is set to no, if you are not making any changes to your module template.
