hello,

XOOPS have any policy about new [utf-8] folders? Now we have a 'pt_utf8' directory in language and system.

*I don't know if have policies to this too. XOOPS have a european portuguese translation?

But ... XOOPS have policy about this?
The main folder [translated] will be in ISO-8859-1 or in UTF-8?

Tks in advance.

Barroca

englishuk = en-uk
englishus = en-us
pt_utf8 = pt-br
portuguesept = pt-pt
etc

NEW XOOPS LANGUAGE FOLDERS
englishuk & englishus

Oh, great idea englishus folders and englishuk folders:

Apart from differences in vocabulary, grammar and pronuciation, I have noted a few differences in usage between englishuk and englishus. I found these comparing the englishuk and englishus versions of a Grammar Book. usually both are correct in each varietu of English, but one is more usual in englishuk, while the other is more common in englishus.

englishuk : I'll phone her
englishus : I'll call her

englishuk : I feel a bit hungry
englishus : I feel a little hungry

englishuk : We decided to go by car
englishus : We decided to drive

englishuk : horrible
englishus : awful

englishuk : cross the road
englishus : cross the street

englishuk : look for somewhere else to stay
englishus : look for another place to live

englishuk : I am going on holiday
englishus : I am leaving on vacation

englishuk : When you have finished with it...
englishus : When you are finished with it... (this is wrong in englishuk)

englishuk : to advise someone
englishus : to give someone advice

englishuk : When will you know your exam results ?
englishus : When will you find out how you did on the exam ?

englishuk : this evening
englishus : tonight

PS1: I'm a noob with English and I want to create new folders to put my name and my links inside. Just It. Great idea, no? Ok, maybe not English because I don't need the complains from xoops.org, so... what about another language? what about Portuguese? YES! Great IDEA!

Two possibilities:

1) Take advantage of the obvious differences between the two dialects to create different folders and put your credits inside (but XOOPS has no support for dialects, and this is a fact and the reason of lack of "englishus" and "englishuk" folders).

2) Or avoid conflicts with Patches.

You're the original translator of XOOPS2 to Portuguese? Or you're just renaming the folders to a new dialect standard?

The pig-spirit will think something like this: Quote:
Yes! If the xoops.org accepts dialects folders like pt_utf8, I also I want to create my "englishxx" just to put my links inside. And no one can complain! Yes!

In XOOPS Languages SVN we have separate directories for Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese.

Within each of those languages, you can have directories for both versions: UTF-8, and ISO-8859-1. The user can then download the version they want to use.

If you submit your language translations for downloads, you can submit both versions, or just only one, whichever you have available.

In the future we'll provide only UTF-8 based files, but I don't know exactly when this will happen.

But Brazilian Portuguese is not a language, is just a dialect like "US English". And about the Credits of XOOPS 2 translation to Portuguese, replaced with help of the old XOOPS Foundation? "Barroca" is the translator? Where is the answer?

@ Mamba: Portuguese is a LANGUAGE like English. Portuguese from Portugal is a dialect like English from UK. Same rules.

@ Barroca: and the credits? any problem?

If the Brazilian community agrees to use the same one version of "Portuguese" version, we could delete the "Brazilian" version. It really doesn't matter to us.
