installing xoops

my hosting server was wiped but the MySQL is protected and saved. i like to know if i install XOOPS again would i be able to recover my website back ? i know it cannot be recovered fully. i have tried installing the latest version of XOOPS when entering the MySQL information i got the error, "could not copy the distribution file to mainfile.php" and the white page appears,
what could be the solution to this problem ?

I would try this way:

1) Make sure that you save the MySQL database as a backup
2) Have this database (let's call it DB1) installed on your server
3) Install XOOPS with a new empty database (let's call it DB2)
4) Have your modules that were installed before copied to /modules directory
5) Change the link in your mainfile.php from DB2 to DB1 (incl. database login and passwords)
6) Login to XOOPS with your old password

Let me know if this worked.

That means that the XOOPS_ROOT_PATH has not been defined or whatever you are trying to view did not include the mainfile.php file first.

Can you give us a bit more information as to what you whre trying to do, what module you were trying to view etc? Really, without any more information, we really can't help ya :)

Okies, I guess we need to get your back into XOOPS to disable some of these module to see if they're the problem.

First, you will need access to phpmyadmin and we will take it from there.

1. login to phpmyadmin and locate your XOOPS database.
2. Locate table prefix_modules (Sub prefix for the prefix you selected to use for the install) and click on that to view this table.
3. Click on the browse tab. This will display all the modules that are installed in Xoops.
4. We need to change a field for each module. Click on the edit icon for all the new modules that you installed (Smartsections etc) and change the active value from 1 to 0 and now save. Do this for all the modules you installed (except the system module).

With any luck you should be able to get back into your website.

Now, you can select to install each module one at a time to see which one gives you this error.

If after doing all that and you still get the same message, we will have to look a little deeper to your problem.
