i login and click the administration menu but all i see is a menu on the left side with subheading system. I didnt get any message saying it was my first time logging in and i cannot see any admin menu.what do i do?

Like how do i add pages and stuff...all i see once im in the site administration menu is the system overview with a left hand menu with things like banners, blocks, groups...but im supposed to be able to go into another admin menu..as it says in the one of the posts

Hi Mamoo

First of all - Welcome to XOOPS

The messages about "this is You first logon.." is removed. I think it was in 2.3.2.

To add content, You have to upload some modules. It's like Windows - You have to install the programs after installing the OS.

You can go into the systemadmin and select Blocks and add a custom block - that would make some content.

What do You want to use You site for? News, Forum, Pictures ?

Thanks for your help..Yes i want my site for general news, pictures and i really want to have a forum. Any other help is greatly appreciated.

First think first..... make sure the you install the "Protector" module that comes with the core download.

After that.....

News:
Get News 1.63 from http://xoops.instant-zero.com/ - this is the defacto standard in News Modules

Demo? See "XOOPS News" link on the left of this page.

Photos:
Use either ExtGallery 1.0.6 from http://www.zoullou.net/ or I can let you have xcgal 2.0.3. Both are excellent. You can see xcgal in use on my site (see sig).

Forums:
Try CBB 3.08 from xoopsforge.com or newbbex from http://xoops.instant-zero.com/

These xoops.org forums are CBB 3.08. Newbbex is proable easier to use. Both are excellent.

What else do you want?

I also want to just be able to put up web pages that are basic text pages. I would do this using Blocks?

Not really - blocks go on existing pages. You need to have a page before you can place a block on it. XOOPS comes with a "top page" but that's it, so you need a module that can add pages for you.

Content modules allow you to add pages in categories. They are best (in my view) where you want to be able to add a lot of pages and organise/group them according to content. See the "Information" link on my site - this uses SmartSection v2.13 but there are quite few others available, e.g. AMS 2.51, Content, Article, Articles (or use the News Module in this way - many do!).

If you want to add a few pages in an "uncategorised" way then you could do an awful lot worse than try Catzwolf's WF-Channel (with WF-Resource) which is very popular and used on this site - look at the links in the "XOOPS" block on the left as some of these use WF-Channel.

Most themes come as .zip files. Unzip the contents onto your PC's hard-drive and take a look at the contents. Some themese have the correct folder to upload to your server "nested" inside one of more others.

Find the folder which has a "theme.html" file inside it and upload it (and all sub-folders thereof) to your xoops_root/themes folder on your live site.

Then:

1. Login as admin and go to Preferences>System>General Settings.
2. Locate the setting for Default Theme and select your new theme from the drop-down list (xoops finds it automatically if it has been uploaded correctly).
3. Make sure that new theme is highlighted in the "Selectable Themes" entry.
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Go" button.

Job done

u said upload themes html file? i tried but it allows only tar and gz. files. how go i upload the files after extraction, also do u have to pay for some tempeletes?
