Center left/right blocks do not respond to position changes

I'm trying to use the left/right center position for my blocks for the first time. No matter what number I change the position to, they stay at the bottom. How can I move them up?

The bigger numbers 'sink' and have the lowest positions. To have them at top make sure they have lower numbers than the others.
It is possible that you have to switch off caching temporarly for the involved modules (where the blocks in question belongs to) .

Also, check in blocks admin that the blocks themselves do not have caching turned on.

Yes I understand about 0 being the top position and I have adjusted the numbers and no change.

The block cache is off. If I move the block to the left bar or right bar the change is immediate. It's center/left or center/right that seems to be stuck at the bottom.

These are custom blocks so there is no module associated with them.

Hmmm...... okay..... I'll ask the obvious question (based on a mistake I made myself )

Are all the block positioned as they should be with respect to the "top centre left", "top centre right", "bottom centre left" and "bottom centre right" positions?

Block placed in, say, "bottom centre right" will always display below those in "top centre right" regardless of block-weighting.

Yeah, I know it's probably obvious but I have to ask

Oh with me you always have to ask the obvious LOL
I did tick the TOP circles though :)
All my blocks have always been center/center if that makes sense. I just adjust the 'weight' to move them up and down to position them.
I have never used the center/left or center/right before or the top/bottom.

Can I just clarify one more thing? You said:

Are you trying to get your left- and right-centre blocks to display above the centre-centre blocks?

If so then they never will. The blocks display:

Centre-centre
top-left | top-right
Bottom-centre
Bottom-left | bottom-right

If you want left or right to display above centre then use the bottom-centre positions, i.e.:

top-left | top-right
Bottom-centre

Don't suppose that helps but probably worth clarifying

It does though... if I am understanding you.

What I wanted was something like this:
center/center
center/center
center/left center/right
center/center
center/center

Wow after typing center that many times it starts to look like it's spelled wrong.

So what I want to do is not possible?

I would have to make some blocks bottom/center to make them display after the center/right and center/left, right??

Yes - that's right

You would set them out:

top-center (lower block-weight)
top-center (higher block-weight)
top-left | top-right (weight irrelevent if only one block in each position)
bottom-center (lower block-weight)
bottom-center (higher block-weight)

See the site linked in my sig - this is how that site is laid out.

Does that work for you?
