How to add information to homepage

I have just finished installing XOOPS and when people browse to my site they are greeted with an empty page asking them to login. I would like to provide a brief summary to the homepage so people can have an idea of the site. I would like to have something like the news article as the home page with login located somewhere on the site.

I would also like some help with uploading zip templates to the site.

You can appoint the news module as default home page module in admin - preferences - system - general. Or you can use one of the many blocks to guide users to recent articles etc. You can also with the spotlight feature display one fix article.
You can also create a custom block and put there html code in with the text you want to welcome the users.
The login is most times displayed in de left (or right) column (as in this site).

Thanks Ghia Thats what I have done and it works. I had one minor problem when trying to change my domain name. The XOOPS installation tries to access the files using the domain I used to install the software. I had a dynamic IP but I know have a static so I would now like to change that in XOOPS because I had subscribed to DyDns which helps resolve dynamic Ip to static.

Sorry but I do not get your question. Are you trying to install XOOPS on an XP or Linux machine.

You have to change your XOOPS_URL in mainfile.php to the chosen domainname from DynDNs.

1) Install WAMP Server
2) create \xoops directory at C:\wamp\www\ (or wherever you've installed WAMP)
3) copy there files from: \htdocs from your directory where you've unzipped the XOOPS files
4) Start WAMP
5) in your browser, go tohttp://localhost/xoops and follow the installation instructions

You should not post questions in someone elses thread for a different problem.

Install XAMPP.
Run XAMPP by starting MySQL and Apache.
Copy XOOPS to xampp/htdocs/xoops/ .
Install XOOPS by surfing tohttp://localhost/xoops/
Both come with simple and clear installation instructions.
