Recently I stumble upon Swift Mailer :
http://www.swiftmailer.org/

It could be an excellent replacement for PhpMailer.

swiftmailer is great mailer and always updated istead of phpmailer not update since release full version at dec 2007 but phpmailer now have new special packages: phpmailer-FE ( form2mail ) and phpmailer-ML ( Mailing List ) and need to test with xoops.
