Daethian,
Quote:
as there are so many bugs and security issues in my XOOPS install.

a) bugs
this might not be related to XOOPS, but to your database being corrupt, i.e. tables being out of synch. I suspect, this might be also in sakyant's case. We had recently some issues with the database and the forum tables here, and we had to run repair on the tables, and then do a manual reconciliation.

b) security
can you points us to the security issues, so we can address them?

I posted them in this thread and somewhere else. New Users are randomly being assigned to the Site Admin group.

I ran a table repair on my forum tables. DO I need to do this on all the tables? Is there a way to do this in bulk or must I do it one by one? I'm still getting that error I posted at the beginning when I click Update after doing the repair.

Am I supposed to use that bit of code from the other thread where the Admin name was being used in the Interests field?

Bugs seems to exist in many of the modules I am using which isn't XOOPS proper I know but it's hard to explain that to others.

I've just downloaded the update so I'm going to try that and see what happens.

If the tables are corrupt, the update won't help.

If you use phpMyAdmin, you can repair all the tables at once. But this still won't fix the issue of tables being out of synch. Sometimes you'll need to do it manually (as we had to do it here).

If you're not comfortable with fixing it yourself, you might hire some of the developers here, who might help you with your particular situation.

Reg. the "Admin name" situation, I don't think it causes any issues.

Bugs exist in every software, paid or Open Source, but we'll try to help to fix them, so please keep us posted.

Can you explain what you mean by them being out of sync and how that differs from a repair?

Out of sync means eg. that id's in one table refer to records with that id in another table, which are no longer present.

That may be the case if their dimensions are too large or they are in a group without the required permissions.
They should be able to download an existing avatar and upload it.

THey get an error that says you don't have permission to edit this user. This is a fellow site admin trying to upload her own avatar. Even when I upload the image to the gallery for her she can't select it.

Is that when they call this link
edituser.php?op=avatarform
or when they select a file and click submit?

Is she able to see them in
misc.php?action=showpopups&type=avatars

You might also set the debug mode on in admin - preferences - system.

She sees the error when she browses to a file and clicks submit.

I'm not sure what you meant by the second part so I just copied that to the end of my site url:

http://www.crabstreetjournal.com/xoops/misc.php?action=showpopups&type=avatars

That only shows one avatar and it was the one she was attempting to upload. There are other avatars available though. So not sure how to answer that one. If she is free I'll turn on debug and ask her to try it.
