Hi,
I have installed XOOPS on one webpage out of 'fantastico'

Now I wanted to install it on another webpage, but not use the 2.0.18.1 fantastico version because the other webpage has got only 2 mySQL databases. So, I wa\nted to use only one first, one I am already using for a phpBB forum.

Now the problem:
I have extracted all files from the HTDOCS folder into my 'portal' subfolder.
Accessing that folder gives me following error message instead of the Install page:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error
or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

......

Additionallya 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/1.3.39 Server at 22-ice.com Port 80

The error log gives me:
[Sun Aug 24 08:33:59 2008] [error] [client IP_ADDRESSPremature end of script headers: /home/USER_NAME/public_html/portal/index.php

Do You have anything in the directory:
/home/USER_NAME/public_html/

if not, the files from htdocs should be there
/home/USER_NAME/public_html/index.php

Did you make a copy of an installed site? Then there are the same tasks to perform as for a local copy.

If you wanted a new XOOPS site, you better start all over by uploading this one.

No, they could also be in a sub directory.
I have installed XOOPS onto another site using cpanel Fantastico. There I have used a ../../public_html/portal/index.php
That works fine.

No, I have downloaded a fresh version using a link on this site, the link you describe.
I have downloaded the file: xoops-2.0.18.2.zip
Now I download the xoops-2.0.18.2.tar.gz file to see if that works better.

If not then I have to install XOOPS 2.0.18.1 from Fantastico and download the upgrade package here.

OK, I assume you have copied all the required files correctly.
So, when the install fails with those kind of messages, I suppose there must be something wrong on the system level like PHP, MySQL.
Did you try a little PHP script like:
(); ?>
or check the database with phpmyadmin?
I think you have to contact your hoster about this.

I have tried the php, that works fine, otherwise the forum would not work, either.
Now I have to see if I can find a XOOPS 2.0.18.1 version and try that one.

Is your XOOPS_ROOT_PATH and XOOPS_URL in mainfile.php correct?

I have checked that already, although it should not be necessary for the installation since the mainfile's content with all definitions will be created during the installation.
So, no absolute links necessary, but just for completion, I have already tried yesterday to make those definitions by hand, but no success.

I have launched a help request to hosting company.

The hosting company told me they had compiled the index.php and found that
XOOPS_ROOT_PATH and XOOPS_URL were not defined.

Actually the install.index.php should take care of that and define the contents of mainfile.php where everything is defined including XOOPS_ROOT_PATH and XOOPS_URL

It usually does.
