I attempted to upgrade an outdated installation of xoops, long story short, I messed up somewhere along the line, and I am left unable to restore the site to it's previous state. Is there anyway I can restore this data. I have a copy of the MySQL database after the failed upgrade.


My question is, is there anyway to recover users and news, forum posts, at all?

My site has been using XOOPS for 4 years and I would hate to loose all my data.

You should be able to extract the data from the modules from your backup. It should import with no trouble as long as the module installed is of the same version backed up in the database.

That sounds perfect, just, I'm not sure how I would go about doing it. Could you give me some detailed instructions or point me to a guide?

If your site provides phpMyAdmin, you can do it with the export (out of the old DB) and import to the new fresh database. Verify the differences of the fields in the required tables between original and target and adapt the SQL-scripts. You find also inspiration in the update.php and readme files from the final and intermediate versions.
BTW what was the original version?
