Hello everybody, I'm new to this forums. After quite some searching here in the forums and not finding the right solution for me I'd like to ask you to help me.

I am running the website http://www.heathernova.net with a forums of 500 members and have urgently to move it to a new provider. I really need to ave this nice community.

I went for a Virtual Private Server at 1und1, a well know webhosting company.

Installed on the old server is:
Xoops 2.0.9, newBB 2.01, news 1.1, TinyD 2.02, xoopsgallery 1.33, Memberlist 1, Polls 1, Weblinks 1.1, piCal 0.62, chess 1.06, sitemap 0.5
with PHP 4.33 and MySQL 3.23

The new server with CentOS5 has:
PHP 5.1.6 and MySQL 5.0.22

I moved all files under "Document Root" from the old server (var/www/html) to "Document Root" on the new server (/var/www/vhosts/heathernova.net/httpdocs).
With Mysqldumper I made a backup of the database and restored it on the new server. Then I made the necessary changes to mainfile.php.
For testing I modified my local hosts file on the client to connect to the new server as the damain is not yet moved.

After opening some cache directories (777), which was not necessary on the old server, the website launched in the browser.

I am able to login, do postings in the forums but I have several problems now.

1. no access to the admin panels (blank page apears)
2. Attaching files in forums postings work but when downloading they differ, are not usable.
3. XOOPS Gallery is not working (mabe the PHP safe mode problem)
4. Memberlist starts, but search is not working
5. Popup windows with additional smilies is emty.

Any idea what causes these problems and how to solve them? Point 1 and two are most important to solve.

Have I done the right strategy considering the PHP and MySQL Version is quite a difference between the old and new server? Does XOOPS 2.09 works with this PHP and MySQL?

I can't say for sure about XOOPS 2.0.9.2 and PHP 5, but if I recall correctly, XOOPS Gallery needs the NETPBM graphics toolkit to be installed on the server?.

Thanks Peekay, but NetPBM and ImageMagick is installed on the server. If I only could go to the admin panel, there is a function to verify they exists.


Thanks stefan88, but deleting the caches I already tried. It seems a permission problem. I enabled PHP-Debug but there is no hint whats wrong.

you may need to change/set the user owner of the files for new account. Maybe host suport may help on that.
Also web server log could have some clues. If you do not have access to them ask host gupport...

thanks stefan88, but the ownership of files is not the problem. I even changed for testing the files to permission 777 (writable for everyone) and it does not work.

When I upload a picture as attachment in the forums that is 272kB in size, it ends up n 124 kB. When PHP Debug is on it is 156kB. Does it makes sense that the Notice hints of PHP are added to the uploade or downloaded jpeg file?

Anyway, i am using XOOPS 2.0.9 and newBB 2.01. There is newBB2.02 out which i should try as this update seems to be easy.

I think I should update XOOPS maybe on the old server first and then do the transfer. I have read the readme files the full package of 2.0.18 but that is not clear to me.

Could anybody tell me the update steps from 2.0.9 or can it be done in one step without doing intermedite steps? Does this update change anything at the database?

I still think there is maybe something with the character set used (latin1/utf8 etc.). It is quite a bifg step from MySQL 3.x to 5.

The cache folder permissions should be 777 but 'adminmenu.php' (which is inside cache) normally remains set at 644. You might try setting this to 666 temporarily to see if you can get into admin.

Also, for reliable uploading, PHP files need to be FTPd in ASCII (text) mode. You might try re-uploading the system files and forcing an ASCII transfer.

If that doesn't work and the other folder permissions are set correctly, it could well be a PHP/MySQL compatibility issue.

I have never upgraded an existing site, but I'm sure someone will offer some advice. I suspect it may need to be done in several steps to go from 2.0.9.2 to the latest version.

Before you do that, you may want to find out if XOOPS Gallery actually works with the latest version of Xoops, or with PHP or MySQL 5. It is a very old module. I would post a specific question in the forums to see if you can find another XOOPS Gallery user.

try to disable all modules except system via phpmyadmin and see if 2.0.9.2 is compatible with your new server. Then you can check modules one by one.

Newbb2 is discontinued. the development path was:

newbb1.x -> newbb2.x -> END!
newbb1.x -> cbb1.x -> cbb2.x -> cbb3.x(curent stable) -> cbb4alpha

There is also some Gijoe and herve work based on newbb1.

your upgrade can be done (acording to readme - I never use it myself, so make backups!) from 2.0.9.2 strait to 2.0.18.1:

you posted the development path, but is this the upgrade path as well? Could I upgrade maybe from newbb 2.x to cbb2 or even cbb3 or is that totally different?
