Which version of XOOPS are you using?

Ok, can you disable all your modules for the time being and give me another list for the debugging.

trying to deactivate some of the modules listed and the modules control panel will not change when I uncheck it and click submit. It worked one time so far. It will ask me if I want to deactivate them and then when I hit the submit button it goes right back to the way it was.

Ok, so who told you that you cannot upgrade your version and how come having it in the wrong folder will prevent you from doing this?

Secondly, you seriously need to rethink about getting yourself a decent hosting company.

Looks like register globals has been turned off and that is the reason why you cannot update anything. More to the point, I think your copy of XOOPS is now outdated to the point where it just will not do what you want it to do.

Now I think it is a case of 'you need to upgrade whether you like it or not'. That is my personal veiw of your situation.

Contact me by email or PM of you want help in doing this.

as for the globals setting this was what the hosting company sent to me today:

Thank you for contacting Online Support. The register_globals setting is off by default for all versions of PHP since 4.2.0. This is not something that has recently changed on our servers.

If needed, you can modify your site's register_globals setting using a php.ini file in the root folder of your hosting account. If you do not already have a php.ini file, you can create one with a text editor and upload it to your site via FTP. Unfortunately, customer support is not able to provide directions, technical support, or troubleshooting assistance for the use of php.ini files. I would recommend that you use your favorite search engine to locate directions or see if the creators of the application you are using can assist you.
