This is what we use to do in Greece:

Whenever a member translates and offers his work, he posts the Core/Module or single file at xoopsgreece.gr Forums.
Administrators check the files integrity and then FTPs them to the xoopsgreece.gr download section.
At the same time (or most of the times) translations are also uploaded at dev.xoops.org as a backup.

I like the workflow from Greece - I uses WF-Download in Denmark and can add dev.xoops.org as mirror

You have a project at dev.xoops.org with greek translations, but I was thinking of a translations directory at this site

I am not fun with this type of listing.
I would prefer each language in a separate directory having the following subdirectories:

LANGUAGE X

- Core
XOOPS Version 1 / pre final version a, pre final version b, ..., Final Version)
XOOPS Version 2 / pre final version a, pre final version b, ..., Final Version)
...
XOOPS Version X / pre final version a, pre final version b, ..., Final Version)

- Modules
Module A / pre final version a, pre final version b, ..., Final Version)
Module B / pre final version a, pre final version b, ..., Final Version)
...
Module X / pre final version a, pre final version b, ..., Final Version)

- Themes
As above

This way is much easier to find what is available (or missing) in your preferred language.

Regarding the Mirror sites, I believe that more than 2 is too much. After sometime one or the other will be forgotten.

SF.net seems to be a fine place for developers but not for translators.

As a user I want to download only my language files, so being a "language-centric" makes sense.

If you use TortoiseSVN, it totally doesn't matter, at least on the SVN part, unless you meant something else...

I mean that there is no reason to use a Revision Control Tool for translations. This could be useful IF we work ON THE SAME translation.

Se definition for Revision Control Tool:
Revision control (also known as version control (system) (VCS), source control or (source) code management (SCM)) is the management of multiple revisions of the same unit of information. It is most commonly used in engineering and software development to manage ongoing development of digital documents...

It's useful, even if it's only you working on it.

Some of the reasons:

- if something goes wrong, it's always a good backup
- it's easier to pull everything into a release package via a script
- users looking for newest XOOPS version don't have to go to different locations to find all the files
- it's easier to build localized nightly builds
- it's easier for the user to update all the files on the local PC via TortoiseSVN

I'm sure that are some more...

Hi Michael. I have no objection but personally (not being a coder) do not know these tools and being quite too old to learn coding, may not use it!
If someone is able or like to use it, he is free to of course.

George, you just never tried TortoiseSVN

This will be part of your Windows Explorer. You don't have to learn any commands.

You really need to look at one of the tutorials to see how easy it is, e.g. this one:

https://www.projects.dev2dev.bea.com/Subversion%20Clients/TortoiseSVN.html

I'll be glad to work with off-line to guide you through it, if needed.

Ok, thank you very much!

I already installed it and I'll give a try during the week.

Is there any basic first steps?

Well, I suppose which you did use SVN. So I decided do a small survey.

If so, is it necessary use SVN for core translation?

My vote: Yes
Survey Final Results: Next week
