Weather 1.3 stopped working

Hi,

The "Weather 1.3" module on my site has stopped working. I don't know why - not altered anything at my end. I've checked the database abd that's fine - even restored the table from a back-up but no joy.

All I see is the "Change City" drop-down menu (but the default location isn't being read) and "Detailed Forecast". The rest of the modules index page is blank.

Questions:
1. Has this happened to anyone else?
2. Has yahoo (where the data comes from) changed things at their end?

Can anyone recommend an alternative weather module that works with XOOPS 2.0.18.1 and php5?

Answer: YES

All the other XOOPS sites that I've checked have the same issue.

I guess this is the first place to start. I'll get onto it as soon as I can (probably tomorrow ) but if anyone finds a solution before me then please share

Yes, I have the same problem.

Yahoo have changed the URL in the past and changing the link(s) in 'index.php' fixed it. This time the RSS and main link seem unchanged, so there must be some other problem.

Anybody who uses this module with the 'forecast' block should disable the module ASAP as the block trashes the page when it fails.

Great module. Worked a treat. Of course, it is not in the repository. Be nice if the original developer could take a look and see if a fix is possible?.

Yeah - I remember that. I couldn't see anything different in the URLs this time either, but I'm going to have good snoop about weather.yahoo.com site and see if I can find anything.

Update:

I've been in contact with the module's author and have had the following reply....

The module needs to be re-written to use a weather web service which is not Dependant upon scraping content from another web site... I have to revamp the module to make it work temporarily but will eventually start working on a rewrite.. I can post the update to the interim module here in the next couple of days..

Thx for that info JAVesey.

I think the dev did a great job with the original. I would certainly use an updated version, but I appreciate the problems faced. I don't suppose Yahoo (or any weather provider) give any notice when they decide to change things.

Hey all, so I have submitted the latest update to the weather mod to the XOOPS module repository so keep an eye out in the downloads section for weather_1.4

I updated to v1.4, and still no magic.

I'm still on 2.0.16, may that be the problem?
