Workaround for " fsockopen"

Hi All

I?m trying to use a feature of the x_movie module that enables the use of videos from another server.

But to achieve that the module uses "fsockopen()" and in my case after almost a week of trying I?ve received a message from the host company telling me that the function is unavailable due to security reasons, so I can?t use this feature (url) within x_movie.

Maybe some smart coder could point us a nice workaraound.

Is there a way to rewrite a function with another aproach?

Any tip guys?

i've heard that libcurl can be used instead of fsockopen. It might be hard to convert everything and i think that if the host has fsockopen disabled, there's a good chance that libcurl will be disabled also.

I think most server admins will tell you that it is completely unnecessary to disable fsockopen. Some have it disabled because they are overly cautious or don't know what they're doing.
...
