I amongst others really like the smf forums, as opposed to cbb...there is a not so effective bridge from smf to xoops.

However on "simple-xoops" site there is a link to an smf module

is this convertable?

what is simple XOOPS in the scheme of things?

Simple-Xoops is a heavily hacked version of the RC version of XOOPS 2.2.5. I don't think the SMF from that version could EASILY be converted because they had to do some heavy hacking of the 2.2.5 core to make it work. I have been testing Simple-Xoops for the past week and a half, and I can say that it has some potential, but at the same time I have found numerous bugs that made it unusable for my purposes.

There IS an affordable commercial forum that I personally like better than SMF. I used it on a project for a client about a year ago, and they loved it. Those forums plug right into XOOPS with an automated install script. Check them out here: http://bbv2.com/

Macmend, I replied in the other SMF thread about this. I guess I don't understand your views. Do you not like the bridge developed by Orstio? Did you try it? I don't know simple-xoops or the "module" they are using, but Orstio's is very effective. I am using SMF wrapped in my XOOPS site, and I love it.
Can you clarify what you are searching for?
I don't know.

The bridge from Orstio is basis of this Modules.
the following changes:
- only one user table
- a group administration
- once Avatar

etc.

the bridge from what I have read in the smf forum is a little flaky. I wanted something that was more unified.

Well, to each his own, but you might be happy you tried it, and you have nothing to lose. I highlighted issues we are up against with the bridge, in the other thread, and those are based on my ongoing experience with it, so take it for it's worth I suppose.
It just seems to me that it is exactly what you are looking for, and if directions are followed and support is sought, the bridge/module is awesome.
Guess I should be a poster child. =)
I don't know.
