Try clearing out /cache and /templates_c, might help solve your problem.

You should only leave 'check templates' selected while you are working on the site, as it increases load on the server / slows down your site.

Try what he said first. If that doesn't work and you are sure someone defaced your site, try this...

Quote:
1. Turn that setting off and never use it while your site is open.

2. Download a fresh copy of XOOPS and replace the default theme installed on your server with the fresh copy of the default them.

3. Clear your cache and templates_c folders

4. Follow the steps in this FAQ entry.

5. Ask your host to do an audit on the server to check for a security breach.

6. Ask your host to implement suEXEC (if not already done) so you don't have to run with world writable folders (i.e.: chmod 777).

7. If you don't already have the protector module installed, install it.

8. If your core or modules are not up to date, update them.

9. If you don't already have a backup routine in place, make one and implement it.

10. When you're done busting your butt, sit down, have a and commit this experience to memory.

HTH

BTW... Welcome to XOOPS! Sorry it's under such circumstances.

You can get a guide to installing the Protector module here.

Also, it may be worth sending an email to your host to let them know you had a problem. Sometimes it is actually the whole server that has been compromised (not just one site).

Since you said the site wasn't compromised, your theme file or css is messed up.
To be sure, do what MadFish said above. Clear everything in templates_c, except the index file (might want to refresh your view in your ftp app to be sure you got everything). Clear your browser's cache. Log in again, and if the theme is messed up, you know it's your coding. Hopefully you back up each file when you work on it?
Also, to repeat what was already said, turn off the "check templates for modifications" feature after you resolve your issue or are finished working on the site without the need to view changes.
I don't know.
