Does anyone know of a module or free software that is like youtube? I want the users to be able to upload there own video from their computers. I have tried xstreamer, smartmedia and even debaser but they would be to complex for the user, I would like the user to be able to just hit "browse" and search for the file on their comupter. I'm going to be launching streaming video from my site. I found a few but they are kind of expensive. Any Ideas?

Why not just use youtube?

-ie: how about a module that simply imports the youtube video, much like myspace does? There may be something like that...

Video bandwidth can be rather expensive, which is another reason I suggest this as well.

Perhaps he wishes to compete with youtube?

I'd like to see a module that functions like youtube also.

youttube is in the millions operational..so if you think you can.. by all means.
But of course, I say go for it. And I definately understand the desire to host the video yourself rather than handing it over to another company.

But from what I've read the smartmedia module should have been just fine.

However I understand what you mean by users having a hard time. IT has to be really simple for people to bother with it. But dont give up on the modules..powers...yet.

You might be able to simplify the submission process, yourself by modifying the user submit templates or even creating a new template block for them to use. And sort of simplifying it that way.

I had to do that for an image gallery once that I thought was super easy but apparently wasnt. Also plan on doing that with my favoreite calendar..
It makes a big differance when you can or take the time to create a registerd member interface..that is less complex than the admins/moderators might be.

Good luck-
will follow with interest..

knight2000,
X_movie might be what you want. I came across it in this thread. I have not tested it enough yet, but it seems cool enough. It lets admin and users submit videos (multiple file extensions supported) through means of uploading or using an existing url. It can also provide users with the code to embed the video elsewhere if they want. Admin controls many of these options. It's worth a look.
I don't know.

I spoke to a developer about porting his work to XOOPS as a module, the script was a true YouTube mimic. He was very interested and agreed, however he stated he was very busy and may not be for a while.

In the mean time there are more options than just Xstreamer and SmartMedia, I'll be making a news article submission over the coming days which will detail them.

Take care
Tim

Thanks for the replies, I'll check out x_movies, if anyone knows of others feel free to let me know. I host my own site and I thought it would be a nice touch to add a good quality and "easy" to use video streaming module. I'm not trying to compete with youtube, I just want my users to have that ability to upload their videos with the nice style of youtube. Thanks again for the replies.
