Why wait with community change? There's obviously a problem in this community, you people are constantly complaining, so work out what your problem is and fix it.

Me, I've downloaded XOOPS and am happily making a new site with it. It's free, it works, I'm having fun, what's to complain about?

Maybe the problem is with the people doing the complaining? Think about it...

also i'd like to point out that community isn't development.

if you want to influence development, then join the core team (if you have the necessary skills), another way to influence the development process is to use the bug tracker & feature request trackers on sf.net, because quite simply, in the near future, these trackers on sf.net will be the only methods accepted by the core team for feature requests/bug reports. ie. if it's not on the tracker, then it's got no chance at all of being in the core. (and yes this will require some interaction with the community in order to make sure valid bugs & feature requests are posted there)

Nine pages of #OOPS#. If we would convert every line in this topic into code, it could be a useful module or a nice core feature.

though i really don't understand why the current methodology has been chosen i'll refrain from posting any further objections to xoops.org.

i greatly look forward to the code you talk about.

Catz,

If you are referring to Giba's list, then it's not about being a core dev team. Whether you like it or not, you have been and still are an important part of this community. Just with the few helpful posts you write when needed and updates to your modules.

An *open team structure* will make it a success. Past attempts were all closed teams, with fixed membership, that prevented others from contributing, that ran into labour shortages, and THAT is why they failed.

We can't have no leadership at all, someone has to be responsible. But let the teams be a mechanism for coordinating and reviewing the wider community effort, not closed shops*.

* Yes I can think of a couple of exceptions, but I'm talking about a general principal here.

I know one particular case you mean - and I didn't agree with decisions made at that time... however, I still think there is a balance between closed and open discussion.

To "Get the balance right" (as the Depeche Mode song says) is another issue.
