The block system is chaotic in admin area as it combines all module blocks and custom blocks in one continuous page. The once ideal module (BlocksAdmin) does not support the bottom center blocks and though they created a new module with additional features, they never added those bottom blocks.

This is a neccessity and should not be a module. A block system which separates modules from custom content should be built into the core. Ideally (I think) it should function exactly like the BlocksAdmin module.

I'm sure that revamping this is certainly a consideration for 2.3 and above.

It would be worth submitting your request here - for new features.

Davidl, I will follow your suggestion and post in the Dev area (just hate to fill out another form )

Snow77, I wasn't aware of the SmartBlock module. I will certainly research it now. Thanks.

Well I tried the smatblocks but it did nothing. It installed ok and when I click the admin button I see open all | close all and clicking either returns nothing. With debug on I don't get any error msgs.

PHP version 5.0.4
MySql version 4.1.14-nt-log

Well I found the smartobjects which made it work but what a big disappointment. I didn't even see the custom blocks. Maybe some thing else should display as I see empty table cells at the top.

I still think the BlocksAdmin module ideal and should be enhanced for the current XOOPS layout.

There is a hack on Gijoe's site to include the additional block positions.

I always have to have this module on my sites.

smartobject is a framework that other smartmodules use. it is basically useless on it's own.

php 5.0.4 has quite a few bugs, you should try to use the latest php 5 version as that has fixed many bugs in the previous php 5 versions.. you should then find less problems with php 5 only scripts.

the blocks management is being enhanced and redone in XOOPS 2.4. but not for the current release obviously being as we're already using the current release.

until 2.4 you're stuck with either smartblocks or gijoes hack.

and smartblocks does work..

http://72.29.82.174/~wwcncom/test2010/modules/wfdownloads/

the login, main menu, user menu in left column is done with smartblocks (under the 'user navigation' header).

the blocks on the right under the 'WWCN Info' header are smartblocks too.

you'll see the order of the blocks in right column changes depending on each module. blocks are made in smartblocks for each individual module. in fact you have to do each module if you want to see the blocks on that module.

it does require spending more than 5 mins playing with it, till you'll figure it out tho.
