Confused: XOOPS 2.0.16 vs 2.2.3a Final, why is 2.0.16 on mainpage?

I am confused about the version 2.0.16 being on the main page as the official download, yet, many modules allude to 2.2.x.

And after doing some research there is a 2.2.3a Final available for download.

I tried to find more info but the dev pages are not available (updating? the site).

Can anyone explain the primary differences between the two versions?

Thanks,

Marc

2.2.x is a discontinued branch.

It is being supported with the forthcoming bug-fix release of 2.2.5 for current users.

The latest version which is recommended to use however is 2.0.16 - which steps back from the 2.2.x branch to the more stable and compatible 2.0 branch, but improves it in a number of ways.

So basically - stick with 2.0.16

Do NOT use 2.2.x if you are planning to use XOOPs main development branch. ONLY use 2.0.16 if you are starting new with XOOPs.

Loving Xoops, and using the 2.0.16 as suggested. However, it seems that many modules are being designed for 2.2x, especially the enticing "Module Packs" offered. Any info on when the next version will be coming out?

The module packs where made a long time ago, and where only for 2.2 users.

new module packs may be coming in the near future, but you would be better simply downloading the relevent modules you need directly.

2.2.x is a defunct version (except for the forthcoming maintainance release of 2.2.5) - the most current release is 2.0.16 - which we recommend you use.

Most modules are designed for 2.0.x - not for 2.2.x - as 2.0 is the recommended branch.

Said another way...

DO NOT -- DO NOT--- DO NOT use 2.2.x.

2.0.16 is the correct version of XOOPS to use if you are desirous of being XOOPS mainstream.

I have moved all but one of my 15 XOOPS sites to 2.0.1x; do the same for yours if you can.

Thanks. I understand, I will NOT be using XOOPS 2.2x. I was confused by the fact that the "Official XOOPS Modules" pages ( https://xoops.org/modules/core/viewcat.php?cid=9 ) lists the platform as XOOPS 2.2, but I must assume that it is outdated. Thanks again.
