Hi jpopenstudio,

Ok maybe I misunderstood, can you clarify your wording for artist, do you mean music artist,, art (drawing) artist or something else?

I presumed music, hence mentioning the Discography module, the definition of discography:

Quote:
# list of phonograph records, compact disks, tape recordings.
http://www.lib.csufresno.edu/libraryinformation/libraryinstruction/for_students/library_vocabulary.html

# A list of sound recordings giving details of composer, title, performers, etc.
lib.ucr.edu/depts/acquisitions/YBP%20NSP%20GLOSSARY%20EXTERNAL%20revised6-02.php

Tom, you had three different modules working together in your suggestion. Could you elaborate a bit?

mmmm, ok lets look at XOOPS on a whole, it's an intergrated cms, as in all modules work along side (well apart from some buggy ones, lol), some work together, maybe not the ones I mentioned, however they globally form in one location, which could be the artists main profile as such.

for example your profile on XOOPS is: https://xoops.org/userinfo.php?uid=56362

In here are lists of all your posts, details of where you are from should you wish, this would also include the said modules above, you could call it the members self repository of information. In here members can find direct links to the profiles photos, further artist profiles and more.

With regards to your error, as Jen asked what version are you using. Also try the gallery, I like it and it's simllar in many ways, except it seems maybe easier to manage things from back end, imho.

I hope this might be of some help.

Let me know how you get on.

Take care.

Re: Module for a multi artist/multi portfolio module

I have 2.03 of xcGallery loaded. I can create a gallery but get a 1003 error when I try to upload.

To clarify, the directory we need to build is filled with visual artists. It needs to be searchable by name and by media (paint, photo, sculpture etc). It also needs to have a gallery for each artist. The gallery needs to be limited to a certain number of images.

Tom, I am starting to get the picture in terms of putting multiple modules on a page. So I could have a page that is designated "Artist X's Page" that would contain their information from one module, their images from another and then some standard site nav stuff on the side.

It sounds like one way to go would be to make a list, using a directory module with a search function, that would show up on the front page or a dedicated search page. A search would bring up a listing with a link to the user page. The user page would contain the user info plus the gallery module. Is that right?

More questions: How much control will the admin have over how many images are uploaded (assuming I can get that part to work)?

How much control can we give to the artists (and make it simple enough for them to trip through it) to get them to populate their own page?

Matt

With regards to Tech support on the error, you would need to ask a php/mysql dev guru.

With XCGal, a user can make their own gallery. I don't think you can limit the number of images uploaded, but you can limit the amount of disk/web space they use, ie you allocate each private album 2mb's worth of space, if they were to upload 500kb images that would be approx 4 images.

Yeah that's right, and the good thing is it would require no work, as each registered person receives their own XOOPS profile, which would be the central repository for them, I linked to yours on xoops.org in a prev post.

With regards to a search tool, XOOPS already has an integrated search tool, if you click advanced each person can then search by specific section (module).

Well that's a question only you can answer.

You could set for admin approval first, or set them straight live for certain groups, its up to you.

You can also edit the waiting contents block to add more options for waiting content, to make it easier for you to admin, I can help with the coding on this if you wish. When you first start the waiting content only works for certain modules, so would require a bit of code modification, like I say I can help here if needed.

Again, this is up to you really, to a certain degree the limitation of the module, however most work with grouping permissions now, so it should be fine.

To find out the limitations you face, install the modules and test them out.

Take care
Tim
