Forum Module of Choice?

This would be for 2.2.x, but what is the module of choice for Forums?

Hands down, CBB. It's actively updated and supported and works great with 2.2.x

... and more importantly... it is a native XOOPS module, that doesn't require hacks.

CBB has a Lot of functionality between modules of the same maker...as in Article, dokuwiki, xmlineplanet ect are interlinking with transfer from one another...plus CBB 4 which is in testing has TAGS interlinking (world first

SMF needs a bridge..that isn't 100% the one I tried; plus if you want all the extra features CBB has, you need to add extra pluggin to it....which can then become a huge task of upgrading...

Only reason for choosing a diffrent forum is that people are use to VB/phpbb/smf and they are faster to begin ...untill the site is overloads with so many modules and queires from diffrent places...

One system is always best!

I really love the newbbex (forumex) module of Hervé. It's small in comparison with newbb, with fewer features etc. But it really loads fast and is easy to tweak, template wise.

The only issue I have with cbb is that it is boring.

Plain Jane, straight forward.

Great for business portals, and clean designs, but for community, and more importantly if you are looking for flashy. XIPB crushes the native module.

Especially if you are willing to put alittle time into it.

"Hacking" is iinevitable, if you don't attempt to customize your forums... what incentives are you offering then?

By going with XIPB you open up the possibilities to add in a shop, points, rep system. AUC (Advanced Usename Color), plus thousands of other "hacks"

It also replaces the default XOOPS comments and PM system.

Its just prettier.

Sorry phpp :(

No sorry for help.

When choose a forum module, you should have in mind about what your users want, especially for community oriented site.
In other words, user experience is more important than functionality for a discussion board in most cases.

Maybe I am just missing the link, but the only thing I see when I go to the site for XIPB is a link to a plugin that you pay for. Is there a link to just the forum and not the plugin?

The forum is the stand-alone, and needs the plugin.
