I want a module to play audio snippets and have it in a block on my homepage.

What module is best for this as I've checked the ratings of the audio/video modules in the repository and none of them are anywhere near 3 stars never mind 5.

Forget about the rating - most users don't seem to bother rating modules, so they're very inaccurate.

I would suggest either: Debaser or SmartMedia (http://www.smartfactory.ca) - depending on what sort of file you're hoping to play.

Also I'd recommend checking out xStream (http://www.xprojects.co.uk) as well.

I basically want a jukebox on my home page to play small MP3 snippets.

Or can anyone suggest a free flash player that works in a block within xoops.

Where were you searching? debaser e.g. has 4 stars! I had to spend a lot of money for people to rate the module and write the reviews!

I've just been testing Debaser but it doesnt do what I want which is display a Jukebox in the block and have the tune play within the jukebox without creating a popup or load a player outwith the website.

If anyone has seen the flash player that alot of people use.

such as the one at http://www.evolutionrecords.net

I thought the concept of popups for the player was a good idea, because my habit of surfing is hearing the music in the background while surfing on other pages. Once in a block the clip starts and reloads when you are to going to other pages even when the block is visible on all pages.

If you study the code of debaser a bit it must be fairly easy to adapt it to your needs.

Exactly - a popup is ideal for XOOPS based sites... as otherwise your tune will keep restarting every time you click on a new section or module...

yeah, but usually you can set up the player to either play a track on load or only when the visitor chooses to listen.

the player on that page has been setup to play on load, but the person that created it could have set it up so that it didnt.

Not only that sometimes you get popup blockers blocking the popups generated by these kind of modules. If this happens and the user doesnt realise its the popup blocker thats doing it they start thinking the player is broken and start complaining in the forums.

Trust me, nowadays people are too impatient and they expect things to work and work instantly. And they dont expect to change setting at their end to get things working as I found out to the expense of my eBay rating.
