I'm currently creating a community-style web site for my church and love the XOOPS framework (I'm using v 2.0.15). However, I'm a total newbie and have many newbie-type questions. The first two:

First:
How do I set up the home page to have content from multiple modules? I can see how to set a singe module as the homepage but what if I wanted to show the latest news content along with the latest blog content, etc...

Second:
I'd like a module that allows me to manage content much like a standard web page so each page has a link off the main menu which takes you to that page. Does such a beast exist?

Thanks in advance, I'll have more questions later.

Welcome to XOOPS!

1)You can assign center blocks that display new or random content from each module to the top page. See control panel/blocks.

2)There are many modules that allow you to enter misc. content as text, html or php code. Take a look at the SmartSection or Tiny Content module. They can be used to organize content (legal pages, about us, TOS, Link to us, etc.) that doesnt fit into your other modules.

If you have a few existing web pages and want to display them within XOOPS , take a look at this FAQ by Carnuke - Can I include my own HTML pages in xoops?.

If you already have your content entered in an existing module and just need menu links to it, you can add links to the main menu or display your links in custom system block. For complete menu control, the Multimenu module allows you to create custom menus that link to anything you specify.

These links may provide some answers for you:

Good Luck!

Thanks for the speedy reply. It helps a lot to know where to start looking.

The reason I chose XOOPS is because I liked the concept of installing a framework and tailoring it to what you need with modules instead of trying to shoe-horn something in that doesn't quite fit. Unfortunately, XOOPS biggest asset causes the largest learning curve. Somtimes I don't even know where to start when I look at the list of modules. This helps a lot.
