I'm getting something wierd. After I logout, the page that is shown has neither a User Menu block or a Login block.

I just uninstalled/reinstalled and it happened again after reconfiguruing a bunch of settings and setting up a few users. Could be I did something dumb that I can't see, but it's only a problem on this test installation. I have a working site in a subdirectory that works fine (been up over 2 years) and I definitely don't want to mess that one up.

Right now, I can still login from user.php and get the admin menu. But on my previous install when this occurred it didn't show the admin menu button. And I checked through phpadmin and the admin userid was at level 5. While I was there I also emptied the session, but didn't help.

Would being installed in the root dir cause this type of problem? I checked mainfile.php and the site urls seem right.

I'm worn out--time for a cheeseburger and strong coffee!

Installing in the root directory won't cause the problem. An anonymous user will not have the User Menu, in order to have the User Menu you must log in first. The Log In block should be displayed however for anonymous(not signed in/or not registered users).

Check in the administration/system/groups Anonymous Group and be sure you have granted them access to the Log In Block. Secondly, check in the administration/system/blocks to make sure the Log In block is set to be viewed "Yes".

Thanks. That's why it seemed wierd, because those are the first things I would check. But I went back and did it again. This time EUREKA! The "News" page, being the default mod for top page, I decided to to check it and yep, that's where the log-in block was disabled. I don't recall even tweaking that one (I generally never mess with it). Oh well...back in business. Happy Xoopsing to all.
