Whenever I use a module like xcgal or myalbum-p I spend most of my customisation time stripping stuff out of the templates. Most of these 'gallery modules' are pig-ugly. I mean the image displayed is so heavily distracted with 'features' like rating buttons, sort orders, links to this and that ... it goes on. I think from an artistic viewpoint we must make a module that allows these features to be optional, not hard coded in the templates.
If you go to any art site you will see very minimalist functions. This is the modern contemporary style that galleries and artists want these days. Currently there is not a single XOOPS module that can do this without extensive hacking.
I also suggest an optional feature to 'BUY' the image, or visual asset. Rather than make a whole os-commerce thing, It's easier to use paypal. Maybe a plugin or at least a field where admins can post a cart button like Lance has shown above. I use xcgal for this, because we can hide all the details behind a javascript layer that opens only when required. This is a great way to present art content. A clean clear minimalist page that opens a details layer when you want them
This is what Im trying to achieve with xcgal.
