Two other possible influences on this:

1. Multiple browsers (ie and firefox) and browser windows open and multiple tabs in Firefox.

2. In sys admin preferences, had "Check templates for modifications?" to yes although it says not to do that. (Very unlikely it was this as far as I can tell, but thought I'd mention it as it was the case).
