Hi, more newby questions, thannks to everyone for your help:

1. What does RC1 mean? As in "Upgrading from 2.0.14-RC1" from example.

2. I notice most / many modules say they are for XOOPS up to 2.0.13 or 2.0.13.2. Will there be any conflicts with 2.0.14 with these modules (generally speaking)?

Would it make sense to install 2.0.13.2 with modules, then upgrade to 2.0.14?

I'm doing a reinstall now, have really limited time for a volunteer project, so much appreciate your helpful answers.

Elissa

1. means Release Candidate 1. Software is oftened release under the versioning structure: ALpha, Beta, RC, Full Release.

An RC version is more mature than Beta but can still have some untested areas, and is the last few releases before the software is considered fully Stable.

2. Generally, no problems.

It would be better to install 2.0.14 and upload and install the modules in teh 2.0.13 package.

One note though, I do not use any of the modules provided with 2.0.13.2, better modules are available.

Cheers.

1. "RC" means "Release Candidate". It's considered to be an advanced beta.

2. Modules that work with 2.0.13.x will probably work with 2.0.14.

I'd recommend installing 2.0.14 first, and then installing the modules. Since 2.0.14 presumably has fewer bugs than 2.0.13.x, you're less likely to encounter module installation problems that way.

The safest approach is to try things out on a test site first. And always make a backup before major changes, in addition to the regular backups that you should be doing.
