Is there a way to hide private forums?

Geetings all.

I was wondering if there was a setting so that priviate forums are visible only to authorized users as opposed to the default behaviour which is that it is visible to all but if an unauthorized user attempts to access it they get a message indicating they are not authorized.

It would be better for my site if the forum list contained only forums for which the user was authorized.

The method for this varies with the version of forum you are using.

For Newbb version 1 that ships with XOOPS, there is a hack to do this. I will see if I can find the link and post it back here.

For newbb 2 and CBB 1 it is all done with permissions. See my tutorial on Forum Creation and it will show you the permissions that can be set. To hide the forum remove all permissions from the group that you do not want to view the forums.

I am wanting to do the same thing: Hide forums from users without priviledges to see them. I am using Newbb 1 in XOOPS 2.0.13.2. Can anyone post a link to the hack mentioned above?
