Is there a way to edit/add the field names in the user registration account?

Currently, I have the following field names:
Nickname
Name
Email
URL
Time Zone
ICQ
AIM
YIM
MSNM
Location
Occupation
Interest
Signature
Comments Display Mode
Comments Display Order....
... User Group

I would like to change it to the following field names:
1)(Drop down menu)
2)First name
3)Last name
4)Gender
5)Birthday
6)Address
7)City
8)State
9)Country
10)Zip/Postal Code
11)Email
12)Phone
13)Fax
14)Website

(optional feature to put is the "required field" feature)

I'm using XOOPS! 2.0.13.x
I read the FAQ and Forum Threads, but some of them are dated 2002-2004.

Not with 2.0.x version of Xoops.

In the XOOPS 2.2.x tree you can have custom fields. However thats only recommended if you really need it. Otherwise this feature should be availbable in 2.4.x which will merge the trees of 2.0.x and 2.2.x again.

For fields that keep their content type and should only be renamed you can do this in the systems language files of course.
Sorry, this signature is experiencing technical difficulties. We will return you to the sheduled signature as soon as possible ...

I'm using XOOPS! 2.0.13.2

Question #1:
Is there any hack instruction that I can do to edit/delete some of the user registration field names?

Question #2:
How do I change the "register now" link in the user menu to "sign up now" link?

1 - see Benders answer for adding new fields.

2 - Not sure, but this should be possible

I'm using XOOPS! 2.0.13.2 in creating my business website

Should I upgrade to 2.2.x to customize my user registration?

2.2 isn't generally recommended, as it will not allow you to update to 2.3 easily... however, if you need these features and are prepared to wait until 2.4 before any major updates - then you can use it.

to update to 2.2... should I delete my previous install of XOOPS! or use the patch instead? I have an existing site online already created from XOOPS! 2.0.13.2

Is it safe/secure to upgrade since security of the site is a major concern of mine. I have to put SSL on to those who logs-in to my site.

Sorry to jump in on the middle of a thread, but this is the closest one I can find for my question.

Is the Email field not editable in Edit Account?

The reason I ask is that, for this site, I registered a long time ago, and the email address in my profile is no longer valid. However, I am unable to change it, and I *really* do not want to re-register in order to have a correct email address in my account.
