You are going to have help yourself a bit more first by providing more information about what went wrong in the first place. Please read the read b4u post thread marked below.

To install XOOPS try this tutorial and go
herefor the first three essential docs.

there is also a help doc thread below.

If you get the >>> failed write constants error <<< just guessing from reading php 5.x check that thread above. Otherwise as jensclas said ... more details please.
