I am having a problem with new users registering, no matter what user they type in, they get an error that the username is already in use.

Any suggestions ?

PHP 5.1.2
MySQL 4.1.18
Apache 1.3.34
CentOS 4.3
CPanel10

Thanks

There's no notation on your post of the XOOPS version. It is my recollection that some XOOPS versions/modules have some issues with php5.
MMM...It tastes like chicken! ...

It's 2.0.9.2

I tried upgrading but that brought a whole lot more of problems so if it can be fixed I'd rather do that since it's a big and crowded site and fixing all the upgrading problems might take a while.

Thanks

You tried upgrading to what version?

Did you do each upgrade one at a time?
and follow with updating system admin module etc?

Did you backup?

I tried Xoops-2.0.9.2-to-2.0.9.3 first then so on. It left the site with a blank page. Since the site can't be down for too long and there's also many modules and it's highly customized ( I didn't cust. it ), trying to upgrade it will take a lot more efforts.

When you say 'customised' if that means specific hacks have been added you will need to fix these each step of the way.

Ragardless of that the suggestion that php 5 may cause a problem check this post
It is way over my head but may make some sense to you.

A couple of other threads that might help

My only other suggestion is to use the search yourself. (Note I have had some problems with search so you may need to log out for it to work...the gremlins are running about!)
