Hi all,

After much reading, I've downloaded version 2.2.3a and would like to begin installing and testing. Does anyone have any advice on which version I should use? I would like to use the latest release but since it's still labeled as "not recommended" perhaps I should use the most recent recommended version instead?

I would like to set up XOOPS for testing on the site and if all goes well it would take over the existing site. Should I set it up in a folder and later move it out to the root? Or can I set it up at the root so that it doesn't conflict with the current site's index page (which resolves at both domain.com/index.html or domain.com/)?

Any advice on both of the above would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

1.Which XOOPS
Yes that version is labeled as "NOT RECOMENDED" ,but if you still want to go with that you should really go with 2.2.4 cause that patch that makes XOOPS a 2.2.4 camed with security fixes that where really needed. I can say I'm havin my site build on XOOPS 2.0.9 that grew up with the XOOPS versions. I can't say it was easy to upgrade all the way to XOOPS 2.2.4 but on the other hand I can't say that it was hard either.
2.Where to
When I decided to upgrade all the way to XOOPS 2.2.4 I cloned the site on another folder in the root and aplied the patch for the wanted version, tested everything and then moved the site in the root and changed the paths in the mainfile.php.
As I said all went well and for the problems I had , they where all fixed thanks to the xoops.org forum.

Now, even though I got it up and runin' I DON'T encourage anyone on upgrading to 2.2.4, cause you can see for yourself that the forum is filled with XOOPS 2.2.4 installation/upgrading issues ..some solved..some unsolved

Thanks DefianceBOy. Let me see if I've got this right regarding your statements below. I've just uploaded 2.2.3a on a test site so I should upgrade to 2.2.4 for security reasons. Will the forum work properly on a clean install?

Thanks. I've downloaded the 2.2.4 patch. This is my first patch and I don't see instructions on the download page for this. I've unzipped it on my hard drive. Would I just upload the files from each folder to the appropriate directory or is there another way to upgrade?

Thanks again!

By uploading the patch to the XOOPS folder, the new files will overwrite the old ones

Thanks. I did that all seems to be working fine. One more question. Is there anything I need to do with the install folder other than delete it? There's a new one with the patch but I'm not able to run anything from there.
