where I can post news etc.

You know the first text you use to see, in phpnuke I
use "message" to do that but I dont know how to do it
in xoops, is it even possible?

Thanks :)

Hi Newbie Man
I am going to suggest that as a newbie you take a little time through some reading - Check the documents link below in my signature. There are some great quick and easy docs and tutorials - in particular for starters the visual introduction to xoops, XOOPS installation guide, XOOPS for dummies and johns tutorials are all good. Look through the whole threa to find the full collection we have.

Once you understand the construction of XOOPS in terms of 'modules' you then have some choices to make. If You wish you can use the news module - once installed and set up with the right permissions you can use a screen not unlike this one to post news to your site either through the front end of your site or through clicking on the module in admin. This modules comes with xoops.

Alternatively you can choose from quite a number of 'content' modules depending on what your specific needs for a 'presentation' is. For some advice on this check the 'how to choose a module'(posted at the end of the docs thread somewhere) . Be sure you understand how to download, install and update modules. (instructions for these are in the docs link below)

If you want to know more about a specific module type the modules name in the search box and it will bering your posts about that module - and visit the sites of the people who have posted modules.

If you ahve a specific question about a module or how XOOPS works etc after doing what you can on your own please post again. I hope this helps you understand XOOPS better and see how easy it is to do a news post. if you can post in this forum, you can do a news post with your XOOPS website. It's that easy!

Cheers

If you do then you would know that you set your news module as your start page in your admin preferences. So much for wasting my time. CYA

If you need something like a welcome message (static text) you can use custom block. In admin -> blocks. And you will have to set the proper group permissions in admin -> groups for anonymous group.

If you want to show some news on your top page, whitout having news as start module, you need to use spotlight module. Have a search on 'spotlight' ...

xmSpotlight is one of the modules: http://dev.xoops.org/modules/xfmod/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1305&release_id=874#selected
..
