I appologize for what even I think is a stupid question:

How do you extract the install zip? I've tried my own windows boxen 7-zip attempts...it says it isn't valid. I've tried linux side unzip and tar utilities. Nothing would touch it since it seems fubar.

Really...it shouldn't be that hard.

Second...do you suppose in this grand world of Content Management System admins somebody along the way would have thought...hmm...perhaps we should have installation instructions that are easy to find. I am assuming that this is pretty much nothing but a zip that contains most of the files, and maybe a simple script to make a MySQL username or something...I don't know for sure because I can't unzip the archive...and there isn't a simple link to 'help' or 'installation' on the website at all. You can see I feel in the dark. I know searching has its place and purpose...but installation instructions should not be "use the #OOPS# search you fool, you can find anything you need".

The XOOPS .zip is just like any other .zip. If you can't extract it, you probably have a bad download, and should re-download it: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=41586

2.0.13.2 is the latest stable version.

2.2.3 (+ 2.2.4 upgrade) is a sort of a development version, but you shouldn't use that one unless you're familiar with what's going on with XOOPS development and want the features in that version.

I can't answer the question as to why you are having trouble with unzip - but with this I can:

Your question here makes me assume you are new around here and as a result not familiar with recent history, the ettiquette that we expect in a community of volunteers, and the intention of XOOPS to empower yourself with the knowhow for it's use. Its' really pretty untiutitive.

Ok...the recent history - XOOPS was Hacked in 05 and all the installation docs that were hosted on this site were demolished in the process. In recent times links to all these have been gathered in the post in my signature called find help docs here...browse through this thread and you will find our excellent support files for installation and other things. There is work being done to make them more easily accessible but as always with colunteers things take time.

The ettiquette is based on the fact that XOOPS is able to be used fairly intuitively but we respect that some people have much less experience than others. However we also respect that those in the know are busy people who volunteer their time freely and as a result we made decisions early in 05 to try and avoid repeat common questions thus XOOPS FAQ was created along with the 'read before you post' in beginners corner. This achieves 2 important things. One - it asks users to use their own skills to find answers to their problems. Then when they ask questions they have in fact learned some of the language they need to ask the right questions and give the right information in their request. Second it means those of us who do look through and try and help people are not typing the same things over and over.

I don't believe anyone is a fool unless they think we we be able to sit here and respond on demand and not get paid for it. Use the search is a way to self educate and that is part of our ettiquette. If you don't like it then I suggest you find another community to belong to. I am no programmer - but this XOOPS community has through it's information, search function, XOOPS faq and forums has empoweredme to run my own website. I am very happy with that outcome as a reslut of a little 'searching' effort on my own part.

True - I don't like the tone of your second topic in your post - but I hope I have addressed this fairly and that as a result you might be a bit more respectful of the process.

Gooday
