Actually this should be in the forum, especially due to the high demand for a decent mailinglist for a few years now...

So, we have the EvenNews mod which is ok, but we could sure could use something much more powerful.

There's a thread started here
https://xoops.org/modules/repository/singlefile.php?cid=41&lid=1147&com_id=26836&com_rootid=22484&com_mode=flat&com_order=0#comment26836

in the evennew mod page that is better continued here.

Do we work on improving EvenNews or do we try to port phplist or simplenews to XOOPS?

Don't forget there's one more option for xoops: the Xmail module: I tested the latest 2.0 beta version, but it still has bugs , it has no decent English translation, don't work well with the 2.2.x version (as much as I saw) and is lake some fundemental functions.

A good mailinglist module should include:
1. categories (subject categories for archiving)
2. groups (for mailing users)
3. a very strong and stable (packet based) "user import" function
4. import-export from-to csv and/or pdf
5. custum fields (or hard coded, but with the ability to show/hide).
6. emails is sent in packets (with the ability to choose how much in a session) - not booging shared servers.
7. 3 screens for the users (with the ability to show/hide from groups):
- 1 - subscribe/unsubscribe
- 2 - subscribers list (built as a phone/contacts/addressbook with categories & permitions and alphabetic sorting)
- 3 - newsletters archive with categories/subjects.

It's just things I shoot ... I'll think of some more soon ...

To ask the obvious, do you have any subscribers?

IF yes, check your XOOPs system admin > preferences > mail setup

try phplist - http://www.phplist.com It's not a XOOPS module but I've got 13,000 subscribers and it's the best reliable option for me

Agree that php list is great.

We're exploring the possibility of improving EvenNews

But it would also be nice to port phplist over to a XOOPS module.

Actually Andy I think since mailinglist (a real decent one) is the most required thing in the community for some years now, we might all unite and gather some $$$$ for this project to serve us all.

but I mean something "real and strong". not just a simple mailinglist, but also something to manage contacts and customers....

 thanks daibt for this excellent bug report! If you jiggle the whatchamacallit, you should get things working again
