I can't create categories or use any of the useful parts of the module as I just get the error of
XOOPS root path not defined
any ideas?
I'd love to use the module properly and my users prefer it too, it just doesn't work fully

Can't be specific here but this FAQ may help you to understand what the Quote:
XOOPS root path not defined

means.

You won't be able to do much with the gallery module unless this is resolved. Once you have this here is some advice on using the module:

To add new pictures, first create directories for the albums you want in the xcgal albums folder and upload the pictures with an FTP program. Then Access the xcgal admin by going to Administration/modules/xcGallery. Create a category for your albums.

Then access the gallery by entering:
http://yourdomain.com/xoops/html/modules/xcgal/ into the browser.

xcGallery should display on your page. Enter admin mode of the gallery, and you will see a button for create/modify galleries. You can then create albums to hold the pictures.

Return to xcGallery admin (where you created the categories) and select Batch Upload. You can then select the photos that you uploaded from FTP and place them in the albums you created.

I can't create galleries, as the root path isn't defined it misses out the module path and looks for all the xcgal files in the main directory root i.e.

when it should be including the module path

so if I try and use cerain parts of the module it isn't calling up the right pages and it just creates the error message or shows a blank page.

Re: XCGallery

Hi again - I still don't have the expertise to help specifically with your root path problem - however i suggest you post in the Modules forum with a specific topic like
'Root path to xc gallery not working' or help fixing a root path problem for xcgallery'. This way you will be being more specific in your subject and forum and the right person just might heppen to be able to help you. Copy and paste all of your last post from this thread into your query - but the important thing is to get the right attention from your subject line.

by the way - are you sure you uploaded all of the module files to the public html - modules folder? (i suspect you have if you have access to the module but ????)

HTH - good luck finding an answer.
