Hi,

I will upgrade my MySQL from 3.x to 5.0.18 on the hosting server.

There are several XOOPS databases running on the MySQL from XOOPS 2.0.7 to 2.0.10.

What is the best procedure of upgrading the MySQL database?

Are there any potential issues or problems with upgrading the MySQL database?

Looking forward to some expert advice

I’m not an expert…but

I’ve worked with 4.0.x and 4.1.x version.

One problem I’ve encountered between those versions is the length of password encryption, you can find this faq for more.

Secondly, a difference that I discovered was the language encoding.

If you have a site in 4.0.x and an ISO encoding you can easily modify the database records through the phpMyAdmin.

When I upgraded to 4.1.x, I couldn’t select the ISO encoding anymore (but the site was ok). One possible solution is to convert the site in utf encoding, this is fully compatible with mySQl 4.1.x

Anyway, that’s just everyday stories of madness – probably you should try it first locally at you pc and then go public.

Thanks for the response about the language encoding. I am running some Japanese sites, so indeed I will try it locally first.

I also managed to google some responses (google seems to be better than the local search on xoops.org). Apparently 5.0 has various compatibility problems, so I will have to try 4.0 or 4.1

Sorry, I haven’t included the faq link. Now, it’s fixed

Yes, it’s wiser the follow a linear transition by stopping in 4.x version.

In 4.0.x everything is easier, in 4.1 you will find many upward characteristics from 5 (I think )
