Same problem here with XOOPS 2.2.3 final .. any clues?

Have you activate the "Receive occasional email notices?"?

Admin-->Modules-->Profile-->Fields-->user_mailok (Receive occasional email notices?)-->Edit-->Default-->Yes

I have this activated and still no go.

I recieve emails if user activation is enabled but do not if automatic activation is enabled.

I also have this problem on my 2.2.2 site using PHP 5. I am reliant on this because when a user registers I need to add them to a group manually.

that wouldn't explain why it works with notifications but not with new registrations, would it?
btw, i have the same problem, XOOPS 2.2.4.
