I couldn't find an item related to this in a search, so here goes.

Occasionally I need to send out an email to all individuals in our "member' group, which is about 1000 people. My hosting co. is not willing to raise the outgoing emails/hour above 500, so I run into a problem where a lot of the messages don't get set. In some mail programs there is a way to throttle outgoing messages such that the limit would not be exceeded. Is there a way to do this using php Mail in Xoops?

Thanks,

Do you mean you can't mass mail at once?

Can you send maybe 300, then 300, and so on.

When I used to use hosting companies rather than dedicated servers, I used to run into a similar problem and often scripts would result to 500 internal errors, because of the ammount being sent.

I could get around this by sending a small amount of newsletters, then another small ammount and another, etc.

This worked back then for me, I think it was a module called Xmail which worked pretty well for me.

I believe the module can be found at the following link, this might not be the exact same version I used though:

https://xoops.org/modules/repository/singlefile.php?cid=41&lid=1322

Hope this helps.

That might do the trick. I'll take a look at it. And, yes, the problem is that if I use the XOOPS admin send email I generate 1000 emails. It sends them 100 at a time, and I could wait for some time before sending the next batch, but that is a pain. Automated throttling is what I need and it seems to be in Xmail. As so many users are on shared servers I think it would be a nice feature to build into XOOPS in the future.

Thanks,

It would be a nice feature for the future, but just add it the list of many other things which haven't happened over the years.

In the mean time you could use something like the Xmail module to assist. Even if it's manual it's still a temporary solution.

Does your website make money? if so could there be something incorperated into your budget to be able to pay some one to make an automatic process module for you.

Another option of course.

I can give you links to sites where you can post a module project and people then bid on the project, you choose whom you want to do the work and if there price is right, let me know and I'll post some links for you.
